What Is a Stroller Wagon?

A stroller wagon is a 4-wheeled wagon that unlike your typical wagon can be pushed or pulled. It can hold multiple children with some wagons holding up to 4. Most wagon strollers are designed for children who can sit up on their own, however, a few have the capability with a car seat adapter to attach an infant car seat.

If you have two children, a wagon stroller is a great replacement for a double stroller. We love our double stroller, but the wagon stroller for some families is a great alternative.

Wagon Strollers typically have more space to carry baby and toddler gear. Many have a large canopy that gives excellent sun protection and can be used as a pack-n-play or nap area while outside.

Because of the wagon design, it is usually easier to use on multiple types of terrain that strollers just aren’t good at like sand.

Is a Double Stroller or Stroller Wagon Best?

This is a tough question because it depends on your lifestyle and needs. I love our double stroller as it has ample storage space, can be used as a single or double stroller, has a riding board for older children, and rides well on pavement, grass, and gravel. Stroller wagons have the advantage of using it to haul ice chest and chairs.

But why would you pick one over the other?

A stroller wagon would be better for:

  • Families who have children not close together in age
  • If you like to go on various adventures outside that don’t include your typical walk to the park or zoo
  • If you have a large trunk and don’t plan on packing much else
  • If you want to use for a longer period of time, as most stroller wagons have a higher weight limit per seat compared to double strollers
  • If you want to use it as a typical stroller once the kids outgrow it
  • If your kids are older and get along a stroller wagon can be more fun
  • If you want to use it for a napping area for small children or babies once at your destination

A Double Stroller is better for:

  • Infants and babies
  • Families who have children closer in age
  • Great for going to the store, Zoo, and park
  • families who have a car with a smaller trunk
  • Extended trips and where you need to pack a lot of other items due
  • Best for napping and typically are more comfortable for children to ride in
  • Best option to avoid sibling rivalry as each child gets their own seat that typically isn’t facing each other

Ultimately, deciding between a stroller wagon and double stroller can be a tough choice. It depends on your families needs, lifestyle, and budget. I may argue having both options would be best depending on the activity you are doing.

Is A Stroller Wagon Worth It?

Stroller wagons are a great way to transport kids, especially if your kids are not close in age. They are awesome as a napping system and to carry ice chest and camping chairs later in life when the kids outgrow the stroller wagon.

Stroller wagons are better suited for a wide variety of terrains so families who like to go off roading or adventures that don’t include pavement they are great for that.

In conclusion, for some families stroller wagons are a great investment and addition to your children’s way of transportation.

Can You Take A Stroller Wagon to Disney?

Stroller wagons are not permitted in Disney World and Disneyland while double strollers that are 31 inches by 52 inches or less are.

Can You Take A Stroller Wagon On An Airplane?

Stroller wagons aren’t allowed as a carry on in airports and must be checked in. Some airlines allow lightweight strollers to be carried on but most require the strollers to be checked in as well.

Our Experience Using a Stroller Wagon

We enjoyed using a stroller wagon. Our favorite stroller wagon was the Evenflo Pivot Explore because of the price, great manueverability on rough terrain, and because it comes with accessories.

There are some wonderful features that stroller wagons can do that traditional strollers cannot. The biggest difference is that they can be pushed or pulled.

Stoller wagons are more versatile and can be used for a longer period of time. When your kids outgrow it you can use it to carry your cooler, picnic chairs, and other picnic or camping items.

The biggest cons to stroller wagons in general is that they are heavier than a typical double strollers, takes up a lot of space in the back of a three row car, and bulky to fold. In some wagons, it is hard to clean the bottom of the foot-wells.

Overall, I really like the stroller wagon but I am not sure I would chose a stroller wagon over a double stroller.

The Best Stroller Wagons Wrap-Up

The best wagon strollers are ones that are easy to push and pull, comfortable for the kids to ride in, can over over various terrains, and are safe to be in.

They are easy to fold, have the ability to be used with an infant car seat, and come with a snack tray, canopies, and storage space.

Stroller wagons are becoming a popular choice for parents who have multiple children especially those who are not close in age, for outdoor adventures, and there longevity as it can be used as a typical wagon once the kids outgrow it.
