What is Dr. Mom Butt Balm?

Dr. Mom Butt Balm is a diaper rash ointment that quickly removes and prevents diaper rashes using safe and soothing ingredients.

Who Created Dr. Mom Butt Balm?

In November 2022 Dr. Jessica Whittle created Dr. Mom Butt Balm. After numerous sleepless nights due to her son’s inability to sleep because of his persistent diaper rash, Dr. Whittle decided there had to be a better alternative.

In her kitchen, Dr. Whittle came up with a diaper rash ointment that got rid of her son’s rash by mixing common diaper rash ingredients that were not yet used together.

Working with dermatologists, she created a safe and effective diaper rash paste that all moms should know about!

What Ingredients are in Dr. Mom Butt Balm?

Dr. Whittle isn’t shy about sharing the active and inactive ingredients in her butt balm.

Active Ingredients:

  • Dimethicone 28% (protectant)
  • Petroleum 48% (protectant)

Inactive Ingredients:

  • Aluminum starch octenylsuccinate
  • Fractionated coconut oil
  • Magnesium hydroxide
  • Spearmint oil

Top Benefits of Dr. Mom Butt Balm?

This diaper rash ointment has a variety of benefits that not all diaper rash ointments have.

1. Preservative Free

No preservatives are in this diaper ointment. Many preservatives are irritating or cause an allergic reaction on the skin which is why they are avoided. The only ingredients in this product are those that are necessary and beneficial.

2. Artificial Dye Free

This diaper ointment avoids the use of dyes. It is whitish due to the ingredients used. Many artificial dyes may cause skin irritation which is why they were avoided in this ointment.

3. Zinc Oxide Free

Zinc Oxide is insoluble which is great as a protective barrier on your baby’s skin. It also makes it extremely difficult to remove. Ointments and creams with zinc oxide can be irritating to the skin because of how much effort and force it takes to wipe it off your baby’s bottom.

4. Naturally Scented

Dr. Mom Butt Balm is scented with spearmint essential oil. It does not have synthetic fragrances. Spearmint oil has anti-inflammatory properties which soothe red and irritated skin.

5. Easy to Remove From Skin

Because zinc oxide is not used in Dr. Mom Butt Balm’s formula it is easy to remove from the skin. Instead, dimethicone is used which does not adhere to the skin like zinc-oxide. It is found to help moisturize the skin.

6. Smooth Application

This ointment is very smooth and creamy due to the dimethicone which is a silicone-based ingredient. This ingredient is used in many cosmetics like lotion and therefore is very smooth and easy to wipe off the skin.

Dr. Mom Butt Balm Pros and Cons

There isn’t a perfect product which is why it is important to look into the pros and cons.

Product Pros

  • Pleasant Smell
  • Easy to wipe off Baby’s Butt and Parent’s Fingers
  • Quickly Calms Down Rashes
  • A little Goes a Long Way
  • Non-irritating

Product Cons

  • Expensive
  • Not effective for Severe Diaper Rashes
  • Shouldn’t be used with Cloth Diapers
  • Fingers Get Dirty When Applying

Although there are numerous pros such as the pleasant natural smell, good for sensitive skin, and ease to wipe off, there are always cons to each product.

Due to this product being expensive and potentially not strong enough for severe diaper rashes, other similar products on the market may work better for your child.

My Experience Using Dr. Mom Butt Balm

Dr. Mom Butt Balm works quickly and is effective for mild to moderate diaper rashes. It is very creamy and soothing on the skin. When applied to our child’s bottom it was easy to apply and was a good barrier to our child’s bowel movements and urine. Compared to diaper rash ointments that have zinc oxide this one is much easier to wipe off without aggressive rubbing.

We enjoy this diaper ointment however, we prefer sprayable diaper rash creams over diaper rash ointments or creams. This is because the sprayable versions keep parents fingers clean and they are much easier and quicker to apply to your baby’s bottom.

Conclusion: Should You Buy Dr. Mom Butt Balm?

Overall Dr. Mom Butt Balm is a great diaper rash ointment. It has some major benefits such as being easy to wipe off your baby’s bottom, pleasant smell, and being preservative and artificial dye free.

If this ointment works for your infant that is fabulous! However, in severe diaper rashes, it may not be a good enough protectant and a diaper ointment with zinc oxide may need to be used.

Dr. Mom Butt Balm is more expensive than other options on the market and because it is petroleum based is not a great choice for cloth diapers. With any diaper rash cream or ointment your fingers get dirty when applying. Many parents like the sprayable diaper rash cream to avoid this along with a quick application.

Ultimately, finding the right diaper rash ointment for your child is what is important to keep them comfortable. Dr. Mom Butt is a great ointment to try.
